Terry Maas Loses Son in Free-Diving Accident
Free-Diving and spearfishing icon Terry Maas lost his 19-year old son in a free-diving accident in Hawaii on July 25. Loren Scott Maas was diving with a friend off Kona when he failed to surface. Scuba divers later recovered Loren, and although his heart and lungs were revived his brain had suffered irreversible damage. As per Lorens wishes, his organs were donated.

Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Docent Training Class
The beach beckons applicants for the Cabrillo Marine Aquariums 2001 docent training class. Applicants should have an interest in the ocean, the desire to learn and share their new knowledge with others. There is a fee of $50, which will include a docent manual, textbook, name badge, and a 1-year Friends of the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium membership. Training will be held on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from September 17 through December 10. Field trips and related activities may also be scheduled during the training period.
