3Rs Beach Diving Workshop - Oct. 11
Rocks, Reefs and Rips program (3Rs) is a mini-course designed to familiarize divers with popular beach dive sites and improve their beach diving skills. A Los Angeles County session will take place: October 11 at Broad Beach (Malibu).
Instructors will demonstrate and supervise proper surf entry and exit procedures, explain unique aspects of the dive site, and discuss dive condition assessment techniques. Participants are then led on a snorkeling tour of the dive site. (Participants are to wear full wetsuit, mask, fins, snorkel, and a weight belt with half of the normal weight they use for diving. Tanks and regulators are not allowed.)
The courses are staged in the morning beginning at 8 a.m. A donation is suggested. The workshop is organized and conducted by the L.A. County Underwater Instructors Association in cooperation with the Greater Los Angeles Council of Divers (GLACD). San Diego Ocean Foundation BenefitOct. 18
A benefit party for the San Diego Oceans Foundation (SDOF) will take place October 18 aboard the worlds oldest sailing merchant ship, the Star of India, located in San Diego Harbor. The SDOF is the principle group responsible for the intentional sinking of the 366-foot destroyer Yukon. SDOF continues to pay the maintenance for the mooring on the Yukon wreck and other wrecks in Wreck Alley off San Diego. More projects are in the planning.
Aboard the Star of India will be dancing, fine wines, music, and hor doeuvres. SDOF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. The cost of your admission is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
