Dive Reports -

La Jolla:

Lots of leopard sharks and guitar fish were reported by Sport Chalet Dive Club of South Orange County in the La Jolla Cove. Visibility was in the 10 to 15 foot range.

Laguna Beach:

A really big bug (lobster) resides at Deadman's Reef. It is estimated at "36 to 48 inches from head to tail", this according to Jeff Geoghan of the Laguna Sea Dwellers Dive Club. Deadman's Reef is located offshore from a Crescent Bay about 1/4 mile.

Shaws Cove has a very friendly octopus that can be hand fed. Cool!

Moss Street also looks promising for lobster and halibut. Huge bat rays and octopus have been spotted at this location.

Redondo Beach:

Lobsters have been reported wandering around the base of the slope of Redondo Canyon (Reef Seekers September newsletter). This is actually not unusual. The lobster have a lot of good shelter in the area and like to move between locations. In shallow they use the inside of the harbor, the intake pipe of the power plant, even the pier, all of which are inaccessible to diver. They will sometimes, as individuals or in groups, move to and from deeper locations in the canyon including artificial reefs, wrecks, and other piles of debris out of range of beach divers or too deep for the sport diver.
