Southern California's Best Beach Dives Book

The Coral Reefs of Papua New Guinea

More flamboyantly colored and unbelievably fascinating than any coral reef paradise on earth, Papua New Guinea has been the destination of many divers, snorkelers, and students of natural history, long before visiting South Pacific islands became as easy to do as a trip to Honolulu.

This underwater art book provides complete coverage of fish and invertebrate species every visitor to Papua New Guinea will encounter.

Authors/photographers of the new book are Bob and Dinah Halstead and Sergio Sarta. Bob and Dinah's superior photographs have been published in several books and dozens of magazines. Sergio Sarta is the author of the International Festival of Underwater Images First Prize winner book of Underwater Photography, titled Portfolio.

The 208 pages contain 230 fine photographs taken under the waters of Papua New Guinea. The theme of the book, as promoted by the photographs is the environmental conservation of the pristine condition of the unique nature of PNG's coral reefs, and environmental awareness of Papua New Guinea in general. Proceeds from the sale of the book will be used by the sponsoring agency - the Islands Regional Environmental and Community Development Program (IRECDP) for environmental education and awareness of this delicate and valued resource. It is IRECDP's aim to provide environmental awareness education resulting in an understanding of the basic natural history of coral reefs, of the splendor and biodiversity of PNG's reef system and the natural and human threats to them.

The authors write "No member of the coral reef community lives in isolation." This book will go far to educate those who live near it, prosper from it, and come from afar to enjoy and appreciate it.

The Coral Reefs of Papua New Guinea by Dinah and Bob Halstead, Sergio Sarta is available through Sea Challengers Natural History Books, Etc., 1-925-327-7750.
