Big Bug From Point Loma
Hello,
I am enclosing some pictures of a lobster which I caught during opening week. This giant was caught in the San Diego Point Loma kelp beds on October 1, 2003. It weighed 12 pounds (11 3/4 on one scale, 12 1/4 on another) and measured almost 2 feet.

Goat Harbor Correction
Thank you for the article on Goat Harbor in the September issue. It happens to be my favorite beach. One very important thing to keep in mind, contrary to your article, there are no campfires allowed at Goat Harbor or any of the other boat-in campsites on the front side of Catalina. It is my understanding that this has been the policy since a fire was started in 1999 at Cabrillo beach, another boat-in site about one mile East of Goat Harbor.

Looking for Ray Info

Hey!
I found your article on the web and thought you could maybe help me! My 6th grade daughter just came back from CIMI at Catalina, and she has a research project which calls for specific research on the “Hornback Ray.” I have not been able to find this creature. Is there such a thing? If so, could you please direct me to a good site?

I believe you are looking for the Thornback Ray. There are numerous sites on the internet to research it. The inaccurate name is what probably made it difficult to find. They are a common creature in California waters.
