Cayman vs. California: Which is Better?
I recently had the privilege of a week-long dive trip to Grand Cayman where, you guessed it, I went diving — a lot. It was fantastic. The water was warm and clear, full of life and color. Is it better than California diving? No, nor is it worse. What it is—is different.

Although I am not as well traveled as some divers, I have been around the block a few times. That said, and supposedly an “expert” in diving, I am often asked by the public “What is the BEST place in the world to go diving?” I have learned in my nearly 30 years of diving that there is no best place to go diving, just different places. Each corner of the ocean offers its own unique special habitat, creatures, even ecosystem. Oh, some may be a bit more brightly colored than others, with clearer waters, but each has something unique to offer.

I look forward to seeing as many corners of the ocean of the possible: cold to warm, east to west. Where you will to go will depend on many factors, but try to see as much of the underwater world as you possibly can. Don’t let a little cold water or less than pristine viz get in your way. Like many of us, you are most likely restricted by budget. But that should not keep you from getting wet. Dive our own back yard. And when you can afford it, go exotic, or even not so exotic—but go diving.
