Diver Visiting California Needs Help
CDN:
I will be in the LA area and want to do a dive or two while I am there. I am certified, have done open water dives on the Palancar Reef, and a few wreck dives. If you have any info, I would be appreciative...

Kyle,
When first diving a new area, in particular a cold water area like California, it is important you first be familiarized with that area by a professional dive guide (divemaster or instructor). For a list of dive trips, go on our boat trip database search at http://www.saintbrendan.com/database/search.htm. Punch in the dates you want and you can see what is available. When you contact the operations, make sure you tell them youve never before dived California and ask if they can familiarize you with the new underwater environment. Have Fun!

Wants Coastal Access Info
CDN:
Thanks for a great publication dedicated to the local divers. Also I like your new format.
Now for my question: Is there a place to find all the local (Ventura, LA, OC, and San Diego counties) shore access locations? Have you ever published this list?
Sincerely,
Bernie Santos

Bernie,
Thank you for your kind words about the new look for the publication. The response has been very positive.
Of course there is our book: A Divers Guide to Southern Californias Best Beach Dives (available at many area dive store or online at www.saintbrendan.com) but it does not cover all the access points.
A more complete book on coastal access is the California Coastal Access Guide published by the University of California Press with information from the California Coastal Commission. It covers more that 850 coastal access areas up and down Californias 1,100 miles of coastline. For information visit http://www.coastal.ca.gov/access/accessguide.html on the web.
