Pacific Star Operating from Redondo

The Pacific Star luxury live-aboard dive vessel is now operating from Redondo Harbor. This central location makes runs short to many of the Channel and islands and opens up the Santa Monica Bay and its many wrecks, as well as the reefs of Palos Verdes and Malibu.

The Pacific Star is custom built for divers and features staterooms, four hot freshwater showers (two on deck), and a submerged swim-step for easy access. An all-aluminum hull and triple engines make this a fast boat cruising at 15 knots. At 65 feet long and 22 feet wide, it is one of the largest dive boats to serve the south coast and its offshore islands. Additional amenities include a spacious galley with TV/VCR, camera table with charging stations, and high capacity compressor.

The Pacific Star will specialize in multiday trips to the Channel Islands but will also operate 1/2, 3/4, and full-day trips to nearby islands, as well as local destinations such as the wrecks of the Santa Monica Bay and the reefs and kelp forests of Malibu and Palos Verdes. Charter reservations are now being accepted with many excellent dates available. Open boats will also be conducted with a schedule to be announced.

California Diving News Publishes 200th Issue

May, 2001 marks the 200th issue of California Diving News. Published every month since October 1984, the magazine has grown from a 12 page black and white issue to more than triple its original size with full color in every issue. After retiring from commercial diving, Publisher Dale Sheckler looked to his home of Southern California and found a severe lack of diving information on the area he loved and dived most. With that, California Diving News was established and continues to offer the California diver the only up to date information for beach and boat diving, photography, techniques, and hunting—all with a California twist. California Diving News added the web version of the issue in 1998 and has been publishing books on diving in California since 1986. California Diving News can be found free in dive stores, on dive boats, at dive clubs and through individual paid subscription and on the web at www.saintbrendan.com. Saint Brendan Corporation is the parent company of California Diving News and also produces the SCUBA Show that takes place every June in Long Beach California.
