Domoic Acid may Be A Problem Again In CA
Throughout California, symptoms have appeared that indicate it may be another bad year for California marine life. More than 20 California sea otters, nearly one percent of the wild population, have turned up dead or sick around Morro Bay. Sea lions have turned up dead around San Francisco. The California Department of Health Services warned consumers that they should not eat sport-harvested shellfish, such as mussels and clams, from Santa Cruz County. Point Lobos Ramp Face Lift
A group of volunteers have worked out a plan to repair the weather worn boat ramp at Point Lobos State Reserve, and to add a diver-friendly hand rail.
Ab Planting May Resume
Restocking of depleted abalone stocks at Catalina Island may resume soon. The activity that launched the Catalina Conservancy Divers (CCD) into prominence has once again been brought to forefront by this same group. The restocking was only stopped by the Department of Fish and Game because of fears of the transfer of disease to wild stock. The Catalina Conservancy divers is currently active and has been successful in a number in of conservation activities, including underwater clean-ups, marine life studies, and surveys. The CCD is now in positive discussion with the Department of Fish and Game and other authorities and organizations about restarting the program.
