Internet Site for Underwater Viz?
Dear CA Diving,
I have been a big fan of your newspaper for many years. Is there an internet site for local underwater visibility? And dive conditions for Malibu and Ventura?
Thank You,
Jack Cousin
Jack:
For visibility, no. For surf height and direction, visit http:// cdip.ucsd.edu/models/socal_now.shtml on the web. Your best bet for water visibility is to call the L.A. County lifeguards at Malibu at 310-457-9701 for a recorded message that includes current surf and water clarity (updated twice daily). The water clarity report is just OK because, as you can imagine, visibility varies considerably from dive site to site. I am unaware of a reliable phone number for Ventura.

I enjoyed your annual SCUBA Show more than ever. While I'll miss the old ship, I won't miss the complete lack of parking and rude hotel staff. The Convention Center is a much better choice. And the exhibit hall was so much bigger that I came early both days and still did not have enough time to see all the exhibits and take in all the seminars and films. Good job!
I had no problem parking, but a friend of mine that met me at the show on Saturday afternoon was a bit confused. He was parked at the opposite side of the Convention Center from where I parked and had to walk around the center to enter. What happened? Other than that, the show seemed great! I hope is was for you.

Thank you for the compliments. The show was very successful with record attendance on both Saturday and Sunday. And personally, I have never seen the attendees more enthused. We have just a few kinks to work out for next year.
The misdirection with regards to the parking was an odd situation. The parking lot in "front" of the Convention Center (Pine Ave. side) was to have been under construction by the time of our show. Consequently, we planned our entrance on the Arena side of the Convention Center. This was coupled with an unusually high attendance of another group at the Arena. A bit better crowd control next year and things should go smooth as silk.

I want to sell my old scuba equipment. Can you tell me a good place to find people interested?
Thanks

Scott:
Some dive stores do sell dive gear on consignment. On the stores that do, make sure the gear is in full working order. That is what I'd recommend, but you're going to have to ask around which dive stores do it.
