Elephant Seals Sighted Near Monterey Breakwater
A female elephant seal visited a group of divers at The Barge, a popular dive site near the Monterey Breakwater. The lone seal spent a few minutes checking out the divers and moved off into deep water. While elephant seals are very common in Northern California during their winter mating season, and during the summer molting, divers rarely get to see them underwater.

Vandalism in Monterey
There were numerous reports of vandalism of dive floats in the vicinity of the Monterey Breakwater. At least three floats had their inner tube ripped out one weekend, and another the weekend before.
