Marx to Speak at CA Wreck Divers Banquet - Jan. 20
Legendary underwater explorer Robert Marx will be the guest speaker at the California Wreck Divers Annual Banquet held in Marina del Rey, California in January.
Marx is best known for his remarkable exploits in the fields of underwater archaeology and maritime history.
A prolific writer, Marx has authored over 500 scientific and popular articles and over 45 books dealing with shipwrecks, sunken treasure and undersea exploration.
The banquet will be held at the Harbor House Restaurant in Marina del Rey, California at 6:00 p.m., January 20, 2001. The evenings entertainment will also include dinner and the California Wreck Divers famous Giant Raffle.

Monterey Harbor Cleanup - February 3
The next Monterey Underwater Harbor Cleanup will be on Saturday, February 3, 2000. It is not required to preregister, and as many divers as show up can be put to work. It is helpful to preregister to estimate the amount of food needed. Divers must provide a scuba certification card and sign a waiver to participate in underwater activities. The last Underwater Harbor Cleanup netted over 5,000 pounds of items. 120 divers participated and received about $3,000 in prizes. The dive shops of Monterey provided most of the prizes and a BBQ for the divers. Some of the items that were recovered: Two large fishing net spools, bath tub, car stereo, boat trailer, many car tires, dish washer, boat parts, etc.
21st Annual Avalon Underwater Clean-up February 24
The 21st Annual Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup takes place on Saturday, February 24. The trash found in the bay is collected over the 90- minute period in the morning and then sorted and recycled by volunteers. An awards presentation will follow that afternoon at Wrigley Plaza Stage in town. There will be a large number of prizes given away and awards given out for exemplary trash and stories.
The proceeds from the Underwater Clean-Up will benefit the non-profit Catalina Conservancy Divers and Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber. Advanced registration is required. Registration will not be allowed the day of the event. There is a registration fee that includes an air fill, door prize ticket, and a commemorative T-shirt.
