When my wife Kim had gall bladder surgery recently, I had to pick up some of her duties in the office. Among other things, these included editing the "Dive Buddy Directory" and "Club News and Happenings" sections of the publication. I have to admit, as important as we consider these sections, I rarely read them. To my surprise there were dozens, no, hundreds, of people ready and eager to go diving. You should NEVER use not having a dive buddy as an excuse to not go diving. More over, these people had a lot to offer.
In the "Dive Buddy Directory" section that particular month I found people who wanted to go diving from the North Coast to San Diego, mid-week and weekends, nights, from the beach or boat - many with their own boats! They just needed a dive buddy. True, there were some looking for romance with their diving, but most just wanted to go diving.
And the scope and choices of dive clubs made the possibilities even larger. In the Los Angeles metro area, there are dive club activities nearly every day of the week, all month long. There is a dive club in nearly every corner of the state. And in major metropolitan areas, you can even join a club with a particular slant. There are wreck, environmental, and spearfishing clubs, photo clubs, and even gay and lesbian dive clubs. Dive clubs have meetings with great speakers and door prizes, beach dives, boat dives, picnics and BBQs! If you are lacking a social life in addition to lacking dive buddies, a dive club is your answer.
