Pebble Beach to Upgrade Accommodations for Divers

Remodeling of the Pebble Beach Club and Pier is scheduled to begin this December. They intend to increase the size of the bathrooms and to allow diver access for changing and showering, and add a small equipment and foot-rinse area. They are also adding parking for divers, up from 6 spaces to 10 spaces. All the old rules still apply. You'll still have to call the Beach Club (831-625-8536) for parking reservations.

Dog Rescues Boy from Otter Attack

An eight-year old boy was rescued by his dog when the child was attacked by a sea otter off the Moss Landing jetty. The child was paddling on his boogie board with a group of children when the otter made a bee-line for the boy from about 25 yards away. The animal jumped on the board, climbed on the boy's back, grabbed him by the shoulders and tried to bite him. The father turned loose the family dog. The dog nudged the otter, who turned on the dog, grabbed him by the back of the neck and pulled him completely underwater. Then dad got there and began trying to save the dog. He grabbed the first fur he found and pulled it to the surface. It happened to be the otter, who tried to bite him. He flung the otter away and the creature swam off. The dog popped to the surface and nobody was injured.

Great Diving in No. California

Monterey has experienced flat seas, water around 60 degrees, and visibility between 30 and 70 feet! If you missed the great fall diving, don't forget the best visibility of the year is between the winter storms.
