SCUBA Santa Dec. 6
The Southern California Dive Club of the Inland Empire (SCDCIE) announced it will be conducting its annual SCUBA Santa event on December 6, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sport Chalet Store in Rancho Cucamonga. This annual charity event is held in conjunction with and in support of KABC 7 and their 11th Annual Firefighters Spark of Love Toy Drive for Underprivileged Children.
Joining the SCDCIE in this worthy cause are Sport Chalet, the California Department of Forestry, the Southern California Firefighters and new sponsors, California Diving News and the Aquarium of the Pacific. The Aquarium of the Pacific will be on site at the event with their mobile Aquarium on Wheels.
For the donation of an unwrapped toy, anyone age 10 or older can participate in the SCUBA Santa Discover SCUBA Experience including instruction, donning gear, submersion in the pool, and a photo with Santa and/or tour the Aquarium on Wheels.
Santa will be equipped with full face gear and communication capability provided by San Bernardino County Sheriffs Search and Rescue Team that will be combined with an underwater video camera to display both images and sound on a big screen TV provided by Circuit City in the Dive Department at the Sport Chalet store in Rancho Cucamonga. Participants will have their photo taken sitting next to Santa with Christmas decorations in the background.
Attendees will be able to participate in SCUBA Santa and visit the Aquarium on Wheels or just the Aquarium. Photos of the divers meeting Santa in the pool will be available for pick up the next day at Sport Chalet Rancho Cucamonga.
The entire event is planned and conducted by member volunteers of the SCDCIE. Instructors and Divemasters are all club members who are employees of Sport Chalet.
With the addition of the Aquarium of the Pacifics Aquarium on Wheels the club is expecting an increase in attendance, participation and donations of toys to the Spark of Love Toy Drive effort.
