Dive Boat Encore Gone
The dive charter boat Encore has been sold to a charter fishing operation in San Diego and will no longer be operating in diving activities.

Triggerfish in Santa Monica Bay
It is being reported that a colony of finescale triggerfish (Balistes polylepis) has established itself on an artificial reef in the Santa Monica Bay. Considered a semi-tropical species this is considered significant in that waters have not been unusually warm this year, if anything, they have been unusually cool. Furthermore, it is believed that this is a breeding colony.
This type of triggerfish has been, on occasion, spotted this far north, but generally only as individual animals or in very small groups and during years of warm water.

Odd Abalone
Abalone have no brains, at least none that are readily apparent. Because of this, they are considered a primitive animal. They do, however, have eyes and a heart with a circulatory system. They are hemophiliacs, lacking a clotting agent for their blood. If you cut them they will bleed to death.

California Lobster Claws
California spiny lobster actually DO have claws—but only the females. Unlike its east coast cousin, the California spiny lobsters lack large front claws. The female California lobster, however, has small claws on its back legs used for tending its eggs that are tucked away under its tail during summer months.
