Nautilus Explorer Rebreather Friendly
The Nautilus Explorer, a 116-foot live-aboard dive vessel that plies the waters from Alaska to the Sea of Cortez, is becoming extremely rebreather friendly. A number of the crew were recently trained and certified to dive the Buddy Inspiration closed circuit rebreather and training is ongoing on both the Megladon and KISS units. Rental tanks for rebreather divers are now available onboard (including 2L, 3L and 27 cf bottles) with a variety of valves to fit both Drager semi-closed units and all popular CCR’s. The vessel is also carrying a large stock of sofnolime as well as spares for Megladon units and has fitted a partial pressure helium filling station and an oxygen filling station with dual boosters. A rental Buddy Inspiration rebreather is available for both training and use by certified divers.

Mike Lever, owner and Captain of the Nautilus, explained, “I originally got interested in rebreather diving in order to have a better understanding of what our clients were doing with them. I had no idea that I would fall in love with this type of diving. All I can say is that nobody had better try and take my unit away from me. I think that there are a lot of serious photographers and experienced recreational divers out there who would be totally “hooked” if they were to take an introductory training course. We are very pleased to offer as much support as possible, onboard training, and limited rentals.”

The Nautilus Explorer’s motto is “different seasons, different seas” and they offer a schedule of trips to British Columbia, Alaska, Sea of Cortez, Socorro Island and white shark charters to Guadalupe Island. For more information, visit www.nautilusexplorer.com on-line.

Remembering Paul Meister
The diving community lost an influential member in Paul Meister. White Point Shore Station was where Paul came to spend 40+ years studying the nesting habits of garibaldi, sea urchin and the hydrothermal vents there.

White Point is where Paul met up and connected with his wife Dodie. They married in 1983 in an underwater wedding ceremony held off the back of a dive boat off Catalina.

In the last couple of years, Paul organized the “Peanut Conference”, where a small group of recreational research divers would publish their work in conference proceedings and share their efforts with others.

Paul has influenced tens of thousands of divers in the So. CA diving community, he will be missed
